Early Life

Captain (res.) Lior Sivan was born in Melbourne, Australia and moved to Israel at the age of two. His parents, Dan and Adina, raised Lior and his siblings—Ilan, Gabriel, Maayan, and Avinoam—in Beit Shemesh.

While serving in the army he started dating Liav Chass, also from Beit Shemesh. They married in 2014 and their son Tal was born some years later. Their daughter Shaked was born a few weeks after Lior was killed.

Education

After graduating from Yeshivat Sha'alei Torah High School, Lior studied in Hemdat, a pre-military prep school combined with Torah learning. After graduating, Lior enlisted in the 7th Brigade of the artillery corps and became an officer and team commander. Upon completion of his military service, he studied mechanical engineering at Afeka College.

Heroic Sacrifice

Captain (res.) Lior Sivan, a combat officer in the 363rd Battalion, the 'Harel' Brigade (10), fell in battle in the south of the Gaza Strip on the 8th day of Tevet, תשפ"דת  , December 19, 2023. He heroically protected and saved the lives of his soldiers and tankmates. He was thirty-two years old at the time of his death.

Lior's Innovations

Throughout his life, Lior planned and built many devices that affected people's lives, on a voluntary/civilian level and also within his work as an engineer. Below are a few examples:

Immediately upon the outbreak of the war, a huge need arose to provide the maneuvering forces in the field with the ability to charge personal phones, military communications, helmet cameras, and drones. As a tank commander and a mechanical engineer, and as someone who had an intimate understanding of his tank, Lior was able to define the operational needs and parameters. Thanks to his active involvement in the project, the 363rd Armored Battalion was the first battalion in the IDF to receive the "Lior Charger," to operate it, and provide the volunteer team with technical and operational comments for continued development. By the end of the war, more than 1,100 "Lior Charger" units had been manufactured and distributed free of charge to maneuvering forces, most of them for armor and a small portion for infantry. The project, which was carried out in close cooperation with the "Yad
